  • I accidentally ate my cat

  • I’m late to this video, but dang Drew this some journalism

  • Drew is the only youtuber whose sponsorships i purposefully sit through because he somehow makes even the ads entertaining

  • why

  • I had a professor who went on and on about self plagiarism and I thought it was stupid. I understand now.

  • The guy who’s not hoarding hair almost sounds like what I imagine Jeff Goldblum’s son would sound like

  • I thought you were talking about the first documentary until you mentioned it was the second. It is identical

  • my father sold his $7500 watch cause of this but then eventually bought it back

  • As an Asian I can't relate to this problem

  • What are you talking about? This guy is great. Does the opposite of what mrbeast has and makes you think maybe I don't need everything

  • My mom watches thease guys 💀

  • holy shit we started watching this doc today in my personal finance class lmao

  • Very entertaining and feel good videos. Nice, guy.

  • I was rewatching this video and it occurred to me that these guys are saying "your life is bad because it revolves around stuff" but theirs kind of do too. They seem so focused on not having stuff that it's all they put their energy into, which I think is also not great. How much stuff they do or don't have seems like it might have become their identities at some point, and so once again their lives revolve around stuff. But I don't know, it just reads to me as two sides of the same coin.

  • I feel like a hobo.

  • Poor Matt. It's a shame this documentary wasn't his best. I don't blame him though

  • what is worse than a minimalist?..a lazy minimalist! and here we have two... they remind me the book "how to be rich, fast" ...when you opened the book, the pages were blank, except the first and the last ... on the first was written" do as I did, write a book" and" the end" at the last...

  • “That place was disgusting! They paid me in nickels!”

  • Wealthy people telling me that i should stop the pursuit of buying things i actually want to enjoy because their own lives are unfulfilling and empty. Like okay lol i dont take advice from influencers pal

    • Right? I wonder if they were to take their very own advice overnite if they were poor broke ass motherfuckerd lmao

  • Minimalism... We can make a religion out of this.

  • 6:00 oh boy yeah good thing that has never happened ever in the history of evangelicalism

  • "Cool but how did you stop smoking cigarettes?" "I just stopped." "Cool" I found this so funny cause this was how my grandpa stopped smoking. He just stopped

  • I'm a minimalist, I like their first documentary because it showed their journey... seriously disappointed with the "new" documentary. As someone who's read all their books, listened to their podcast, It's sad that they couldn't develop their ideas any further in 10 years.

  • "It's like if you went to church and the whole sermon was about how the pastor became successful" drew have you ever heard of megachurches

  • I think the movie was alright, nothing special but I think it's just pretty shallow but that's okay. As a minimalist it didn't really resonate with me because I knew pretty much all the things. Also Drew you are oversimplifing in many ways which is expected because it's supposed to be funny. It is funny and I am not mocking you haha, but I don't think you understood the segment when they were talking about simplifying and stuff. Also it gives me a vibe of Think Like A Monk by Jay Shetty, such a fucking awful book and Jay is the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen. It would make a great video idea

  • Not him coming for Matt d’avella’s heros 🍵👀

  • I wish I could get express vpn but I'm anti-minimalist and have a crippling shopping addiction so I have no money!

  • I watched 10 minutes of the documentary a while and turned it off because i was sick of hearing how much better they are than everyone else.

  • Drew what albums are up in your background here? I'm going nuts trying to place the upper right of the top 3, the blue and orange. Thought it was Explosions in the Sky or Flaming Lips, but matches.

  • To me it just feels like at any minute he's going to tell me to sign up for some Jake paul-esque scam to help me get my life on track. Like being a minimalist is a mindset and a life choice, so trying to convince me to be that way feels wrong

  • Cynicism was the original minimalism until it changed to becoming a cranky old man and Diogenes was an absolute legend

  • While i agree with the over all idea of purging stuff and mentally feeling some sort of relief/freeing feeling from it. it also makes sense that humans aren’t necessarily “hoarders” they are nesters. Biologically we surround our space (homes) with things that make us comfortable and try to create an ambiance that we can spend hours in. Virtually every mammal does this. Take birds for instance. Nesting. Do they really need that one specific branch? Nah. Its just cozy. Some birds even decorate. Yes. Decorate. Its just human nature. 😁

  • Logic is pure and when it works you don’t attribute it to Zoltan you leave logic alone. It is like a wheel let logic roll. Nothing destroys a good common good than a dose of some absurd sense.

  • The Documentary got me into Minimalism, I just needed the WHY so I could look up the How, You all should really try at least to get rid of the things you don't use anymore, at least you are gonna spend lest time on cleaning and organizing

  • It's not 0 + 1 - 1 = 0 It's something like 0 + 9 - 7 = 2 They didn't have enough, then they had more than enough, then they keep what really give them joy.

  • josh looks like he was cast to play drew's dad in a biopic

  • 6:15 Um.... Drew I don't know how to tell you this-

  • It's so interesting to me the way they preach minimalism is so opposite to the way I learned it. At like, sixteen, I picked up Marie Kondo's book (before she got popular, I'm the true hipster) and learned the "if it doesn't spark joy, thank it and give it away / donate / etc." She doesn't have weird specific rules about amount of things, it's simply about what makes you happy, and acknowledges that people form emotional attachments to objects, and acknowledges that it isn't a BAD thing. These dudes feel like they're going to come into my house and yell at me for having a broken cat toy (kept because though it is a broken stick with a string on it, the cats go absolutely nuts for it.)

  • I never knew someone could be so fucking pretentious about having literally nothing.

  • no drew you cannot do math, you bought shoes instead

  • Good ideas just get co-opted by rich egoists and it kinda sucks.

  • Stuff.

  • We were forced to watch one of their shitty docos in year 9 and it did nothing but make me think about all the stuff I wanted to buy.

  • Hey Drew, today my brother was watching tv and I am too lazy to get my earphones, but I could watch your video perfectly because of the captions, and I think this video is awesome, it is not a critic to minimalism it is a critic to the people that teach things wrongfully, and that's very cool. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you and ask you to never not put captions in your videos; I'm not deaf or anything, but I know how important this is, and thank you for that ♥️

  • 8:47 yeah, ikea was on the other side of rome, there was still like 40 minutes untill the fire got to it. We learn that in history class

  • Dude, how the hell did u get the 16000 per podcast episode figure?

  • i have that black shirt your wearing

  • This doily (drew) always makes me laugh ❤️

  • If living a minimalist life grants you happiness and well-being, congrats, you are very privileged with no real problems in life. Also the way he says "mom" instead of "my mom" is very NPR and ted talky.

  • I haven't clicked the like button in like 7 years but then Drew told me to ignore it and that was the final straw

  • I fell asleep on this video

  • > preaches minimalism > sells physical single-use products

  • Their vocabulary is so minimalist that they just repeat the same things

  • "He spent the next 20 minutes talking about this thing called ... minimalism. " minimalist

  • as someone with autism i will admit it made me a hoarder but because of that im extremely sentimental Minimalism is something i admire but i know it would make me so sad being a hoarder also makes me depressed, but i just want to find the good in between

  • The KonMari method is what minimalism promised and insisted that it was. It’s also usually ugly and sad.

  • You know what makes me happy? Moderation and stuff that survives for decades. Minimalism is just consumerism and doesn't teach that products should survive for years. houses should be able to survive for atleast 100 years, phones should be able to be used until the hardware fails and shoes should actually be strong.

  • I never watched I just thought they're ugly and weird...

  • Ugly scam they got there

  • Weird coincidence that Drew made a video on the exact documentary I just got assigned to watch and answer questions on

  • minimalism is nonsense. is wasting money in few things that are expensive, those dudes are conmen

  • Drew makes subjects nobody would care about, really interested

  • 3:34

  • Japan basically started minimalism and they have a horrendously high suicide rate so... none of this movement makes sense to me.

  • THERE IS ACTUALLY A GUEST PASTOR WHO ONLY TALKS ABOUT HOW MUCH MONEY HE HAS

  • It's funny that they are criticising consumerism by selling you another useless idea you don't need; in this case 'minimalism'.

  • I'm not really a fan of minimalism, I get the idea of only having things that have value for you, but then people take it to the extreme and end up living in blank soulless spaces in which everything is white (or at least a bland neutral colour) and heaven forbid any object other than some basic furniture is on display. I want to be able to express my personality and my likes in the space that is mine, I want it to feel home-like, I want to be able to have things out because I am using them, or because I like how they look without having to feel that I am somehow messing up a look which required everything to be spotless. To me minimalistic spaces feel hospital like at best, and at worse as if the space is just dead. Give me a space with character, a space that looks lived in over that any day.

  • Dude looks like an older drew, change my mind

  • I can’t be the only one who from the beginning thought “this sounds like a copy pasted TED talk” only to be proven right minutes later.

  • I have a minimalist lifestyle, it's called being too poor for things 😎

  • Relief... thought it was just me..

  • It’s like they stole Steve Jobs act, only with Steve it wasn’t an act.

  • Drew's never heard of the Prosperity Gospel? There most certainly are churches where the pastors talk about how they got rich

  • This gotta be THE first world problem come on guys really saying he can afford so much stuff he has to stop himself like thats his problem lmaoooo

  • A couple of months ago, I met up with one of my brothers for the first time in a few years to visit with his family and ask for some advice. Instead of constructive career advice, I got an earful about Taoism. He kept going on and on about it, and the way he conveyed everything gave me vibes of cult indoctrination. Taoism is fairly harmless, but the way he talked about it was creepy. I think my anecdote and this documentary both prove that even an innocuous philosophy can be misconstrued and manipulated into something unsettling or disturbing.

  • Yeah this is cringe. I'm gonna go buy some stupid crap.

  • Bought their book then threw it away as it took up too much space..... minimalism foreever

  • It's guys like them that make me concerned now if I say I'm trying to be more minimalist, I'm going to be seen as a quackjob like them, lol. I'm moving in a month and have only packed my bedroom so far. I took some time to go through a lot of stuff I've had for years and throw it away, and wash clothes still in decent condition to give away. I can't see myself going so far minimalist that I only wear neutral colors like many...I like denim jeans and colorful blouses too much. But I decided to only keep clothes I've actively worn...which was still a fair amount, but at least the stuff is being used. Also, I'm going to need to refurnish the entire apartment. The current furnitire is thrice handed down, old and ugly. If minimalism is about keeping what brings you happiness, none of that furniture does that. So, again, donating what's still decent and trashing the rest. I have a whole two bedroom apartment to decorate and I've made a list of the things I want, with everything serving an exact purpose, no knicknacks, and very little artwork except for a painting from my mom and some prints from Etsy. My hope is my new home shows personality, but looks very orderly. I love the clean Scandanavian style so many minimalists style after but I don't have Scandi money for that type of furniture, XD! "Farmhouse" seems to be what my shopping list is filled with, unintentionally.

  • isn't drew being a hypocrite

    • > calls Drew hypocrite > doesn't elaborate Lucas is a sigma male confirmed

    • Care to elaborate? Because I don't see how he's being hypocritical at all.

    • How

  • Hey Drew! I did NOT ignore that like button! How do you like that, loser!

  • "But most of us aren't Hoarders, right?" me: oh no, no, I'm definitely a hoarder, but yes continue?

  • I once watched this Netflix documentary about mushrooms. I thought it was going to be "hey this mushroom is toxic and yada yada", but it ended being "our ancestors got high off of mushroom and that's why we're smart"

  • reusing the same sentences is just a way to express their minimalism!

  • We want more of evil preacher/evil Toby McGwire Spider-Man Drew!

  • I had to read the title a handful of times because I kept seeing it as millennialism Like I didn't see minimalism I saw someone trying to take a generation and turn it into a religion I was so confused

  • Actually, my stuff makes me happy. I'm just specific about which stuff that is.

  • are you an atheist Drew Gooden? just asking.

  • Wanna watch Spider-Man 2?

  • Talks exactly like Prince EA

  • These guys probably work for Rockstar or Bethesda

  • having children is the most anti minimalist thing i can think of.

  • For many people minimalism isn't a choice.

  • I don't know why you're confused, they consolidated the script of two films into one

  • I have a lot of stuff and I really need to disagree on some things. The stuff I have really makes me happy, but it's mostly emotional items and not unnecessary consumerism stuff. I have a little jar with bottle caps. Yeah unnecessary stuff, but looking at it gives me a tiny bit of joy. Staring at an empty wall doesn't.

  • Oh my god, I thought they were just re-promoting the original film. I didn't realize it was a second whole movie. It was so similar to the first, I thought I had already watched it.

  • On the one hand, you shouldn’t revolve your life around meaningless things, but on the other hand, having stuff is fun. I enjoy having books and manga and pusheen plushies.

  • One kinda nice ring: $1k plus. How much I probably spent on school supplies up until college TOTAL: Like $1-2k

  • I started a blog. And the first month it got 52 views. Now I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but Mom was so proud!

  • and oh how people used to hate Marie Kondo for being normal about this, unlike these dudes who just make poor-p0rn

  • The short hair guy sounds like a rejected clone of Seinfeld most of the time
